Hi all,
As a result of a change in ownership, we need to change our financial year from July-June to Jan-Dec. Am I right in thinking I’ll need to create new Cubes with a new Time dimension, or is there a ‘quick fix’?

Hi Alan.
If you want to change the default fiscal year in your time dimension, then yes, you cannot change the time dimension setup after a cube has been created. A new cube is the only way out.
That said, if you would like to use the existing cube to report YTD figures using a different fiscal period, you can do that by creating a custom time perspective. This is a common trick that we use in cubes where let’s say for one company you want to use a particular fiscal period, while for another company in the same cube, a different fiscal period calculation is needed.
This trick, though useful, is typically utilized for certain reporting needs. As you may imagine, it can have limitations for other functions in Prophix since it does not replace the default fiscal.
Hope you found this useful,

Hi Navin,
Thanks for your reply. That’s what I thought. I’ve used the custom time perspective before, so I can do that here if necessary.
For the current year, where we’re effectively just extending it from July to December, I wonder if we could just drag & drop those months from next year to this in the Cube?
Alan
Hi Alan,
Yes, you can do the drag & drop, thereby customizing your financial year manually. Another way to do this is to once again use the custom member property and create a MDX named set that lists all members that have a certain value in the custom MP (say ‘2022’). Or if you want to go the non-MDX way, create an Alternate Hierarchy, which can be used it for reporting (and not data entry).
Cheers,
Navin
