Detailed Planning Cube for Contracts/Jobs

Is there anyone using the detailed planning cube for construction projects/jobs?

We’ve been considering moving from a regular cube to a detailed planning cube because of how quickly our jobs finish up, and how we actually plan for projects.

Hi @kara.sheehan,

I would leverage your CSP for something like this.
If you submit a ticket in our support portal, our Product Adoption Consulting team would be happy to offer suggestions on next steps based on your specific set up

We use the DPM for our jobs planning process. I think there a lot of great things, and we could definitely increase our current use next year. I would be open to having a discussion, can share our developments to date, and discuss your needs as it might spark some ideas for myself.

DPM in my experience would be the best model type to use

Hi and welcome to the Red Carpet. My organisation does the following:
A DP cube is set up for capital projects. within that, projects are assigned to a “to consider”, “in planning” “Approved”, and “completed” bucket, as appropriate. Active projects are linked to the spending on that project in the ledger, and budget versus actuals can then be compared. Workflows are set up with monthly tasks to perform variance analysis and move projects between the different categories as progress is made. Disclaimer: I didn’t set this up and have little idea of how the “back end” of it works, I’m just a user. Good luck!

Considered it but haven’t figured it out yet, following to see how others have implemented it.

We do not have as such complicated Capital budgeting; so we did not think we should use at lease for now.

We do not use the detailed planning cube for our construction jobs, but that could be something we consider for the future.

We do not but would love to learn more about it.

We don’t utilize DPM, but would be interested in seeing a webinar about it.

We have not used it for this purpose. Would love a webinar on how best to utilize the DPM.

We’ve not used for this at this point. Looking to learn more about the module overall.

Hello, Kara!
We are a manufacturing company and have used DPM for multiple business activities.
I attended Prophix’s mentorship program this past year and highly recommend, if you have time. I was able to partner with @bob.smiley who offered a wonderful wealth of resources and ideas. The program certainly helped with roadblocks and assisted with implementation of various cubes/etc. I am sure anyone at Prophix could assist with this project
Have a terrific Tuesday and best of luck with your DPM.

Hi @kara.sheehan, we use a mix of DPM and standard templates for our job budgets, depending upon the stage of the job. We are general contractors and builders, so our job budgets are very complex and our cash flow is of utmost importance so we monitor and modify our active budgets regularly. We use DPM to import schedules from our scheduling platform as well as for forecasting long-range projects that are in the “pipeline” rather than on the books.

Only used in a limited capacity but would love to learn more

Hi Sabrina! What is the mentorship program you mentioned? I think I would be interested in this. We’re in the process of starting our first dpm for Project management. How do you get involved in this program?

Bob, I saw your webinar on DPM. The way you used the flags was really interesting. We’re beginning our first DPM for project mgmt (Tooling), but I think I may use some of your techniques. May I reach out to you if I have any struggles setting them up? You had some really great ideas!

Hi Kim, of course you can reach out to me! You can email me directly, but frankly I get so many emails that sometimes my replies get delayed. You can also PM me here on Red Carpet and I get those alerts same-day. We can also schedule a quick zoom session if you’d find that helpful.

Happy to help where I can.

Great! Thank you so much!! I’m in the stage of transferring setup plan from my brain to a format other people can follow (if that makes sense) before I pull the trigger in Prophix. I’m curious if there is a limit to the number of attributes in DPM. Or if no limit, is there a point that performance is sacrificed at all? I noticed you had quite a few. Did you find there’s a magic limit that stays in the realm of manageable and high performing, without slowing down the output? I will take you up on your offer. I really appreciate it.

Hi @kim.worthington,

I can introduce you to our mentorship coordinators for next steps if you’re interested in the program :grinning: They can provide more information about the program and pair you with a mentor.
