July 2024 Product Adoption Tip: Using Data Precision

Data precision allows you to define the decimal values you want your data to show across all cubes, accounts, and users. This allows users to see more accurate data values. Using this feature drives the amount of decimal places the values in the cube will appear as, regardless of the numeric format selected.

If a member combination that you expect to return a value of 23.18 returns a value such as 23.1800000001 or 23.179999997, setting the number of decimal places to round values to 2 decimal places causes the value to appear as 23.18.

By default, the Data precision option is turned off and should only be used if you are experiencing problems with inexact data values.

To enable this setting:

  1. Open System Hub
  2. In the menubar, click System Settings
  3. Navigate to the Data Precision tab and turn on Round cube data
  4. Select the number of decimal places to round values to
  5. Click Save.

Nice tip, Would it permanently round the value or just for visual purpose?

This is really useful, you can still change the way that numbers look in the reports that you create but I would like to be able to change the number of decimal points in specific ad hoc data views, for example our exchange rate table.

Thanks for the tip! We have multiple decimal places in our converted USD data.

This is great tip and very useful.

Excellent tip and very useful in controlling the number of decimal points.
