Hey, everyone! I found a cool tip for Microsoft Outlook and thought I’d share it with the Red Carpet community. Sure, it’s not a Prophix-specific tip, but we all use email throughout the day and most of us probably use Outlook as well. And you’re used to seeing screens like this -->
Summary: Outlook has a security feature that prevents images and some HTML elements from downloading from external emails. This feature exists for a good reason. If you receive an email from an unknown sender and you open it, the images in the email automatically download from the sender’s server. If the sender monitors that server, they can easily find out you opened that email by checking if you downloaded the images. This will instantly tell them that your email address is valid. This is one of the many tactics that spammers use to find out if an email address is correct.
BUT maybe you’d like to see the images, including email signatures, in your messages by default. This article explains how you can do that. Worth noting: the linked article also explains how to allow automatic image downloads for only some emails. So you’ll want to be careful with the approach you choose here - but you do have the option to accept safe senders, including Prophix Consultants when we send you screen shots in our emails.
Check it out here and let me know what you think of this tip!!
Thank you for sharing, interesting to know. I’ll be investigating whether our company would be ok with us doing this as Im forever right clicking to push pictures through
Delina, this is a great observation. While I really like this tip, because I do spend a bit of time downloading images in pertinent emails one-by-one, employers may have specific rules about what changes you can and cannot make to the settings.
