We’re all trying to keep respectful distances from each other these days! But life goes on – and we need to keep ourselves and our loved ones occupied. Use this thread to share your favorite free resources for education, fitness, kids content, and more.
I struggle working out at home, so while I’m stuck doing my job from my basement i have a goal to do some short exercise every hour while i’m working. For example, 50 push-ups and squats every hour. Definitely been a sanity saver for me!
50 push-ups and squats per hour is intense! Sets of 10 at a time?
I work from home sometimes and take 15min breaks to go for a run
My son is working on one of these: https://www.communityplaythings.co.uk/learning-library/articles/pompom-chicks
spoiler: even if I do manage to take pictures of the finished product, they won’t look as good as the ones on this blog!
Not having to drive home after work each day has allowed for more time to run each evening. It’s great to get out of the house for some sun.
I’m trying to do this as well - well, a walk instead of a run, at lunch, since there’s nothing much going on at lunch anymore … I also grabbed my acoustic guitar and put it in the upstairs office, so if I find myself wanting to take my brain out of work or world happenings, I can grab it.
I work from home on a regular basis so it’s nothing new for me. What is hard is having my whole family at home and not having any time to myself. Also struggling with entertainint the kids. We have been doing a lot of Cosmic Kids Yoga and Virtual field trips.
I’ve been a WFH employee since Mar 2011.
This has been tough for me as I’ll use Starbucks or Tim Hortons as a getaway from the quiet home.
We’ve been learning how to make maple syrup, cleaning the garage and finding new games to play around the house.
I’ve been using the extra time not spent commuting to get back on track with working out. I also find WFH easier if I maintain my normal morning routine and have a dedicated space with no distractions
I’ve been going on carefully social distanced walks around my neighborhood - especially an empty church parking lot.
These look like so much fun! I would love to see a photo of the finished pompom chick!
Making maple syrup sounds like quite the interesting activity. Is it easy to find sugar maples to tap in your area?
Something that has become really big in the U.K. is virtual pub quizzes.
My husband and I have really enjoyed doing these because it stops us just sitting in front of the tv every night.
I am also trying to get back into running to make sure that I don’t spend the whole time just eating and drinking far to much!
brings back memories of when I was a kid in upstate New York! we made it every year. it’s one thing we definitely can’t do here in England…
we’re enjoying going for spontaneous bike rides through the neighborhood. Also, nice to hear good news:
My gym, Orange Theory, is providing free workouts!
Amazon has an audible site with free audio books. It includes books for kids and even classics for adults. My work book club picked two books from the list so that we could keep it going while it was difficult to get books. The site is below or you can google “Audible Stories”. My book club is doing Call of the Wild.
I’ve really tried to maintain a good routine. The biggest difference for me is that I actually take a lunch break now and help my son with homework while we have lunch! My husband, my son, and I have been playing lots of board games and card games!
While working from home & school are closed, it is hard to keep children occupied and limit their electronic time. I found www.Education.com during covid19 is offering free independent workbooks for children pre k to grade 5. Make sure you have enough papers and ink to print these.
